How Do I Get in to Super User Mode..

I have tried to get into super user mode I thaught i was logged in but Eh somethings going Nutty

enter the super user mode with one of these commands, then start the installer

Did that and now all I get as a screen for configuring the monitor...is there a way to by pass that ?
so taht I can dissable the ati card?

Sorry, by why can't you just configure it? :) And what is your card and system version, and how does this monitor configuration look like, because i don't really get it which panel is it?

Log in recovery mode, and reconfigure xserver, if you really don't want these drivers:
sudo dpkg-reconfigure -phigh xserver-xorg

I ma in the process of re-downloading x
It is a configeration that pos up right after I load the ati software form the sight.. n other words....My ATI Radeon X300 though the sight says it supported winds up locking my system in a endless loop and no mater the configuration I chose undoes the lock out ..well a lock out is the best taht I can describe it ..

i the administrator it gives us a choice in using the ati Graphics card or not. I check it the bam the system goes into an auto down load for the drivers..

It asks you to restart the system and that is where in lies the problem..No log in screen nothing..just a thing that pos up asing you to configure you card settings aswe all the monitor refresh rate.

I managed to mess with the refresh rates and nearly crashed the system.. then I restarted the PC and no issues
HOWEVER WHEN I download the Card it is right after that is wehre it begines..

I have the ati sights drivers for the update.
Its showing you how to install it manually or automaticlay

eh for my system it is the command "sudo -s" thanks javaboy...I am guessing that for some reason the systems have different commands..who knows lol..

But I am relaoding X..if this other attempt fails then Ill leave all as is untill the main version comes out..Maybe theyl make it where the system will automatically detect the hard ware lol.

Ubuntu has a special package with the same drivers that is prepared for ubuntu and gets downloaded and installed with restricted drivers manager (in feisty it's version 8.34, http://packages.ubuntu.com/feisty/misc/xorg-driver-fglrx). So no need to download or install drivers from any site.

If you did run this package with sudo before trying with restricted drivers manager, it may be the cause of the lockup, unfortunately removing drivers installed that way is very hard. If you didn't try and still get the lockup we can probably help with this.

Some have reported that your card works better with free, open source drivers, without installing anything than with ati drivers.

ok, I wasn't able to up date the drivers where I was able to do it befor..so I must not have a program that I loaded before...any how For a new topic....

Problem partially solved, now the system after the reload refuses to use it lol.

Helped me to solve the issues and believe me I am saving the x.org file that is in my pc should I need to reload.
I now have a desk top and well, it is now saying that I need to install the package "Linux restricted drivers version 2.6.22.13- generic for this program to work.

2.6.22.13 that means you're on gutsy already, you probably know that's not official yet. I had a problem with updating kernel modules a couple of minutes ago, so this may be it, just wait a couple of hours then.

Configuring resolution, graphics card etc. should be very easy in Gutsy, just try system-->administration-->screens and graphics (not to mention that it should get autodetected really).

By the way, how do you know there is something wrong with your graphics card?

WOW, I have 3d imaging now with the ATI catalysis inter face.. how ever it is extremly touchy to any changes made.

Just an up date, when using ATI Catalysis or 3d graphicss card DO NOT MESS SETTING ON THE Screens and settings area unless you want to change the background, if ya do your asking for trouble...Funny though Linux and windows are different they BOTH REALLY mess up on this spectrum....eh only windows doesn't kick your drivers out now that its set I ain't touching a thing lol.....But thank you every one for your help. it is much appreciated.

I guess it all comes to learning to think Linux and not windows. hmm wasn't there a watch called Linux?
