collapsing formatting bar in pidgin

Pidgin 2.2.1 defaults with a collapsed formatting bar in conversation windows. You can expand it from a dropdown-type menu to a full toolbar if you like, but there doesn't see to be a way to re-collapse it to a menu. Am I missing something obvious somewhere?

Taken me some time to find how to expand this bar. :) To collapse it back, right click on an empty space on the bar (make the window bigger), and select group items.
