CUPS/Samba -- print server not working

Asked by cafonso

Since migrating to from Breezy to Dapper, I cannot print from other workstations to the printer on my Ubuntu machine.

Tried the existing suggestions to date to tweak the .conf files without success. Web access to the CUPS system does not work -- requests a user and password for which there is no information on how to set them up etc etc.

Latest updates to date to Dapper done, but the printer server is still dead.

Funny, this is one of the system components which was supposed to work out of the box in Linux since many versions ago...

I think you should file a bug against cupsys package, specifying the contents of your /etc/samba/smb.conf, /etc/cups/cupsd.conf, /etc/cups/printers.conf.

Click on "create bug report" on the left, or if you feel comfortable with the launchpad system, go to :

https://launchpad.net/distros/ubuntu/+source/cupsys/+bugs

Can you help with this problem?

Provide an answer of your own, or ask cafonso for more information if necessary.
