wireless connection problems

Asked by Coldfront

Ok I've finally made the switch to linux. the intial switch was painful enough to try and find the right version that would work with my laptop. now that that's finally taken care of I can't set up my wireless connection.
I have a compaq presario v6000, the wireless card is built in and I don't know what kind it is. However when the card is connected and turned on there is a light that comes on. But nothing I do gets it to turn on.
I've tried to set it to just roaming and can't get a connection. I've tried setting up the connection with my router's ip address, subnet mask and gateway address. I get absolutely nothing.
I'm running ubuntu 7.04 amd 64.

I've read some of the other posts and put in the commands for lspci, ifconfig, iwconfig. I would post the results here but i don't know how to convert the text from and .odt file to one in which windows can recognize.

You can convert that .odt file by downloading and installing OpenOffice on Windows, or you can re-open the file on Linux and save it as a plain text file. Also, check what wireless card you have installed under Windows , assuming you have done a dual boot install. If you haven't, check the output of the lspci command which should clearly state a brand and model name for your wireless adapter.

I did a quick check on the specs of your laptop, it should have a Broadcom wireless adapter. A quick google on broadcom and ubuntu support gave me this link with some helpful instructions:

Some more googling should provide you with enough info on how to
Hopefully this will help you enough to get it working.

Roald.
