Sound output improvement application

Asked by Savvas Radevic

It would be nice to have an application which improves the sound output, something similar to srs wow effects for windows:
http://wowmediaplayer.srslabs.com/
Quoting:
"How Does It Work?
SRS WOW restores original audio data lost during the recording and compression process. It improves audio dynamics and expands the audio “image” to create a natural 3-D listening experience.
SRS WOW also maximizes bass using sculpted filters and driver physics to go beyond the low-frequency limitations of the speakers."

Do you know of any application that does this?

P.S. This could be an idea to attract the musicians in the world of Ubuntu :)

Mmmm I don't think there is anything like that. Sound management is clearly needing some work compared to Vista and OSX. PulseAudio should help, but it's not yet installed by default on Ubuntu, and I dont think it features this kind of improvement.

But then, you can maybe check UbuntuStudio, that's a special flavor of Ubuntu for multimedia purposes.
And personnally I don't really like this kind of effects, as most of the time it's just some tricks to tune a bit the sound. But it can't replace a real 5.1 sound experience. I don't think it will be a priority for Ubuntu. But if you find anything, don't hesitate to post it here, some other users may want this too.
