Live cd will not boot

Asked by marty_graw

I've downloaded Ubuntu and burned the image file with Nero to CD. I browsed the CD and the individual files are on it. I set my computer to boot from CD which it does attempt to do on startup, but then it goes to the hard drive and boots Windows. I do have CD and DVD burners installed, so I tried to boot from both without success. I did notice when I setup the boot order that an asterisk appeared in front of the CD-ROM selection. I would think that is because I have the two burners. Upon boot-up it tries the DVD then the CD and last the hard drive with the Windows boot.

Did you burn as is described here: http://screencasts.ubuntu.com/Nero? (sorry for this simple doubt, but it is possible to make an unbootable data cd with all files on it).

Can you boot from any other cd (knoppix, windows, bartpe)?

Check if your image is all right: https://help.ubuntu.com/community/BurningIsoHowto, under MD5 sums.

I would also try using different burning program, different media (maybe your system can't boot from cd-rw, if you used it) or disconnecting one of the burners.

Can you help with this problem?
