No wpa support for Ubuntu 7.04?

Asked by poisrcu

To start off, I am a totally new to linux and only know basic commands... I cannot connect to my WPA-PSK (WPA2 i believe) network at home. I saw a package for KDE, will that work the same on GNOME?

There is WPA (and WPA2) support in Ubuntu (GNOME).
In GNOME you get the NetworkManager that takes care of the network configuration.
There might be some incompatibilities with the hardware, check the list at
http://live.gnome.org/NetworkManagerHardware

When you click (normal right click) on the small icon for Network Manager at the top right of the screen, you get a list of available networks. You would choose the network to connect, Network Manager will figure out whether it's WEP, WPA-PSK, WPA2-PSK, WPA-Enterprise, WPA2-Enterprise, etc, and ask for the proper information.

WPA-PSK is plain "WPA" that uses a passphrase (Pre-Shared Key) instead of an authentication server (WPA Enterprise). WPA2 is sort of enhanced WPA.

For more on WPA/WPA2, etc see
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/WPA2

Can you help with this problem?
