My situation is nearly the same, I tried to installed the Ubuntu OS on a Toshiba laptop and it did not do anything. What is oddly enough is that I have installed the OS on a desktop without any problems using the same CD-ROM. I have also seen this happen with Mandriva and FreeSpire, but not with Ubuntu. However, Ubuntu is a wonderful OS and I am thankful to the beautiful people behind it, and can not thank you enough for it.

P.S.
There also this one additional problem {The GNOME Panel 2.14.3} on the Ubuntu OS is always moving around as the browser is open. Is there a way to lock it and prevent this from happening?

Are you sure you burned the image rather than burning the iso to a data cd? Did you check the md5sums of the download?

I found a text file called "md5sums" both on the burned disc and in the mounted image;as far as i can tell they're identical.

I have used both Disk Utility and Toast 7 to burn the (mounted) image. I have tried to restart with the "C" key down,to force boot from CD. Startup Disk control panel doesn't show the disk,so I can't do it that way.

To recap: I have a Mac G4,867Mhz,1.5GB RAM,running OSX 10.4.7.

Some PC hardware configurations do not work with Ubuntu, specially brand name systems.

Hi

I'm not sure if you have burned the iso.

drag the iso file into disk utility window, left hand side bar, click on it then click burn.

................don't mount the iso first.............

if your cd has the iso file visible then you havent burnt it correctly when you can see the files of the installation on opening the cd then you have.
