RE: XUBUNTU WILL NOT START

Asked by thgang

Hi,

I am using Xubuntu at the moment (based on the Ubuntu 7.04 OS). I switched on my PC one day and I got an error message before the login screen came up and it said:

'GDM could not write to your authorization file. This could mean you are out of disk space'

I do not know what to do and have not had any ideas to try!!

Any help would be great

Thanks,
Tadeh

You can boot to a recovery console by pressing escape when loading grub message appears.

Then you can check disk space on different partitions with "df" command. If you have separate partition for your /home there has to be some space on it.

To remove some programs do:
sudo apt-get remove <program name>

If you have some free space it can also be a permissions problem, so let us know.

Can you help with this problem?
