Ubuntu and Xubuntu Live CDs will not boot on one PC

Asked by RobertK.

I have a computer that has good specs and has run Ubuntu before. Whenever I first installed ubuntu, I didn't allow enough space. So after a couple months I took it off, put windows on then tried to put xubuntu on, because I thought it may run faster. But whenever I try either the ubuntu cd or the xubuntu cd I get an error that reads something like, "could not boot F1 to retry, F2 for setup". I retry and the same error shows. I tried the xubuntu cd on another PC and it worked fine.

Both CD's are burned by me, and I am sure they are done properly. This computer has booted Ubuntu before when I installed it, though at the time it was a professional copy. I could get the professional copy again, but I would rather like Xubuntu on this PC.

If you can help I would appreciate it, if you can't, then it isn't a huge issue either.

Thanks and God bless!

Check the boot order in bios, maybe you're booting from something other not the cd.

Maybe you've burnt a cd that this particular reader can't read (like cd-rw with an older cd-roms), if it can read it doesn't necessarily mean it can boot from it.

There are a some other options to installing from a cd:

It's not that hard to switch between different desktop managers, so don't be too concerned about that.

Can you help with this problem?
