Dell e1705 ubuntu not working right

Asked by Franny

I have installed Ubuntu from (www.mylittleubuntuguide.com) which is supposed to be configured for a dell but since installation things have been degrading. After getting some help from Ubuntu forums there are still many issues that have continued and appeared. My wifi does not let me use my own WPA protected connection but goes to someone else's without WPA. But the wifi is not the only problem. I was able to get my HP printer working by downloading hplip but when I went back to use it again, it does not work the same way and was very difficult to get anything to print. Then it would not print at all. Things seem to have a mind of their own and do strange things on their own. I know this must sound foolish but I am at my wits end. I could not begin to get into the details of all the strange occurrences, although my son could most likely explain more if anyone wishes to inquire. Is there anyone who can direct me to a version of Ubuntu (I have feisty 7.04 now), a disk or a download that is configured for and has the right drivers for my system?

Would Kubuntu be a preferable version for the Dell Inspiron E1705?
Or is there any other version that someone has used with my computer model and had success?

I added my email below. Please put Ubuntu Help in the subject line so I will recognize the email.

You can find helpful information here as well directly from dell regarding the same hardware in your platform as the models they list.
