How do i get my keyboard/mouse to work?

So i just got a usb keyboard/mouse set. I plug it into my laptop and nothing happens. The light on the mouse doesnt even ligt up. works fine on my windows pc. The keyboard is just a regular usb dell keyboard with 2 usb ports in it. The mouse is a dell mouse. On my windows pc i just plugged it in and it worked. What do i do!!??

before i used another usb mouse (not keyboard) and i would just plug it in and use it. What is different now?

Are you plugging the mouse thought the keyboard or directly to an USB port?
USB Keyboards that are also USB hubs are not that common.
Try plugging keyboard to an USB port and mouse to another.
