cannot start opencpn after installing it

Asked by John Wilson

I have installed OpenCPN on my laptop (Asus K52J) running Lucid and during the installation I get a message about all the dependencies being fulfilled.
However it is invisible not showing up when I go Applications> to all categories
When I drill down: /usr/local/bin/ it appears to be there in the correct place.
I had OpenCPN installed and working on my previous laptop a Toshiba running Lucid.
Is this a bug?
Any suggestions what to do?

It sounds like it is installed, but has not place an icon in the menu system.

Try opening a terminal (Ctrl+Alt+T, or from applications menu), and typing the name of the program. /usr/local/bin should be in your PATH environment variable, so the terminal will look there to resolve the program to run.
