Workspaces over multiple displays

Asked by Gregory Gay

I have a laptop and an extra display lying around. I know that Gnome opens four workspaces by default. I'd like to have the second workspace displayed on the monitor and be able to drag things to it from the first workspace (on the laptop screen). Is this possible? I've never edited xorg, so please provide detailed instructions.

Thanks!

There are a couple of different solutions to that.

Take a look here: http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=221174. If you need more help come back here, but tell us what have you chosen and what hardware (graphics card) do you have.

You may also wait for Gutsy, it's scheduled for 18th October and comes with a built in tool to configure multiple displays.

Can you help with this problem?

Provide an answer of your own, or ask Gregory Gay for more information if necessary.
