Every time I try to cahnge any settings it asks for a password. I type in the password and it says that the underlying authorization mechinism will not allow it. What do i do?

Every time I try to cahnge any settings it asks for a password. I type in the password and it says that the underlying authorization mechinism will not allow it. What do i do?

Which password are you typing? Your regular user's or root's? Ubuntu has a silly way of setting this in that there is no root user, you do everything with sudo. Also, installing software requires the regular user's password, which is pointless since you are already logged in as the regular user.
