Unstable Wifi Atheros AR9287 Ubuntu 10.10

Asked by Jorgliott

When connected through my wireless card, Atheros AR9287, the internet is useless and unstable. One minute i'm able to load a page, the next nothing works. Over an eth0 connection everything works. The wireless network works well on other computers. Does anybody have an idea on how to fix this instability? Cheers

Thanks, i've been going through the pionts in your link, but it does not seem to solve the problem. I am able to connect to the network and send/recive some information some of the time.

This is the result of runnig the comand:

sudo apt-get update; sudo apt-get install hwinfo grep; sudo lshw -C network; rfkill list; sudo iwlist scanning; cat /etc/network/interfaces; cat /etc/lsb-release; lspci -nn; lsusb; sudo lshw -short; uname -a; dmesg | egrep '8180|acx|at76|ath|b43|bcm|CX|eth|ipw|irmware|isl|lbtf|orinoco|ndiswrapper|NPE|ound|p54|prism|rtl|rt2|rt3|rt6|rt7|usb|witch|wl'; iwconfig; cat /etc/modprobe.d/* | egrep '8180|acx|at76|ath|b43|bcm|CX|eth|ipw|irmware|isl|lbtf|orinoco|ndiswrapper|NPE|p54|prism|rtl|rt2|rt3|rt6|rt7|witch|wl'; sudo hwinfo --netcard ; cat /var/lib/NetworkManager/NetworkManager.state; sudo lsmod

Result:

W: Failed to fetch http://dl.google.com/linux/chrome/deb/dists/stable/main/i18n/Translation-nb.bz2 Something wicked happened resolving 'dl.google.com:http' (-5 - No address associated with hostname)

still, after trying this, my problem seems to be the same. I replaced aptitude with my package manager apt-get when i got an error first time. I'm quite lost now, do i need to change to a new driver perhaps? Does anyone need me to post any new information to this problem in order to solve it?

Thanks :)

I have an Acer 5738ZG laptop which come with an AR9287. I was experiencing exactly this bug.
I simply installed the package "linux-backports-modules-wireless-maverick-generic" and the problem was gone.

Sorry I can't remember nor find again the Internet site on which I found this solution.

Enjoy!

I forgot to mention that you have to restart the computer after package installation...
