Can I use my own Os selector (Acronis), not Grub

Asked by Otto

I would like to install Kubutu 7.04 on my 1st HD (the one with XP) but I already use the Acronis OS Selector and I like it. How can I install Kubutu with out using GRUB?

You need to run the Acronis installer. So I guess you should just install Kubuntu, then at the end, choose between those two solutions:

if Acronis is already installed and you know how to add Kubuntu, I think you can choose "do not install any boot loader" at the end of the installation. Then reboot, you should have your Acronis menu.

If Acronis is not installed, you can just install Kubuntu (included the boot loader), then reboot in Windows, and then run the installer of Acronis. You won't be able to install it from Ubuntu I guess.

Thank you! This seems like the right thing to do. I am installing Kubuntu 7.0.4 and I do have the Acronis OS selector already installed. At the end of the installation, do I get a choice to not install the Kubuntu boot loader?

I think you have the choice. I guess you can choose between:

-nothing
-install grub on the MBR
-install grub on the active partition

I can't guarantee this. But anyway, even if you cannot do this, you will still be able to reinstall Acronis from Windows and boot all your OS.

Can you help with this problem?
