please open a terminal and type (without the $)

$ lsusb

drag the mouse over the output right click and paste it in a reply here. This will tell us more information about the particular device. It displays info on all USB devices connected to you machine.

there is another useful command :

$ iwconfig

and it will tell you if a driver has been loaded and functional for a wireless device.

When you speak about "commands" in any current computer language or system, it means something that you have to type *exactly* as it's written :) Try to cut and paste the command from the browser, it's "iwconfig" and I bet you will get something more informative.

It's probably a driver issue. Is the wifi linux compatible? You should always check that before buying. If it's something you already had you are probably going to have find out if there are linux drivers available.

Lots more info on wifi at https://help.ubuntu.com/community/WifiDocs

Can you help with this problem?
