When you discussed this with your e-mail provider, did you check the settings of the ports, the type of mail server you have (SMTP, etc), and what sort of security level your server requires (TSL, SSL, etc)? What sort of information did your e-mail provider give you?

Yes, I have checked with Idearc and all of the settings are correct, thundarbird works just fine but for some strange reason I am unable to get evolution to work. I can give you all of the info if you want it I just don't want to post it. Any help you can give will be greatly appreciated.

I just did a fresh install of Evolution myself (being a Thunderbird user, primarily), and these are the steps I had to take to get my Gmail account up and running. Again, these steps may not be exactly the same for you, given your server settings, but at least you can see if there's a step you missed, or if something is missing on your end that I've got on mine.

1. Synaptic Package Manager > search for evolution.
2. Install evolution with all of its dependent packages.
3. The installation dialogue has you do the following steps:
    a) Identify yourself, and your email (leave the "this is default account tickbox checked) then click next.
    b) select incoming server type, then add your server details (username, security stuff) then click next. Since I have a POP account, this is what I chose, as well as SSL encryption.
    c) settings for how you want incoming mail handled - pretty self-explanatory.
    d) select outgoing server type, add server details. My outgoing mail is handled by an SMTP server, with TSL, and requires a password.
4. If all is well and good, upon opening your inbox, you should have an e-mail from the Evolution team.
5. Sending a test e-mail to yourself is a good idea to make sure your outgoing mail server settings are working. For me, it is when I apply my password, and from then on it's worked.

If this doesn't work, I suggest a fresh install of evolution. You can remove evolution from the command line:

sudo apt-get remove evolution

Follow this up with an autoremove of the dependent files:

sudo apt-get autoremove

Or, you can use the Synaptic Package Manager to remove the files.

When they are completely removed, try re-installing Evolution, and see if that helps. I do know that in a month (less than, actually), you'll be getting a fresh version of Evolution with the new release. I don't know if this response has helped, or if it's anything more than you've already done, but best of luck. Please feel free to respond to this if it doesn't work, and keep the question open.
