Gutsy: Cut/Copy/Paste Strange Characters

Often when I Cut/Copy/Paste between applications, I end up pasting this:

Ä^Ä^㥬_

What is going on?

I copy/paste alot and haven't seen anything like this. Any specific applications?

When the problem starts happening I can cut something from gedit and paste back with that result.

Cutting from Firefox and pasting into the search bar or gedit produces the same result.

I wonder if this has something to do with VirtualBox, which I run often and has a clipboard sharing feature. However, as I said, when the problem happens I can cut/paste entirely within gedit with the same result.
