I have a built -in web cam and mic, but they WILL not work together for some reason.

Pitivi video editor is for people who have video to edit. I am not getting any video. I get like a split-screen and two seconds of wind-like audio, then black screen. Cool, huh? I have tried everything you folks have shared with me so far, but no results. Is there a way to check my drivers? Cheese SHOULD work, but it doesn't do anything except take snapshots. When I try to record video,( which it says it does) it really won't. What the hell is going on?

 It is an e-machines M-250 Netbook( same exact thing as the Acer Aspire one D-250 -just different decals)
It's an Acer crystal eye webcam (integrated)

Pitivi's "import from webcam" feature is disabled (due to various reasons) no matter if your webcam actually works or not, so you need to use other software to capture from the webcam. Cheese *should* do it, if not, you should probably file a bug on it.

You could also try using VLC's transcoding/dumping capabilities using V4L or V4L2 as the source.
