ACPI differences between the last two kernel updates for Gutsy

Asked by James Valentine

When I installed the development release of Ubuntu Gutsy a few weeks ago, the kernel version was 2.6.22.10. I was pleased to see that I would not have to recompile my kernel to cut out the THERMAL module of the ACPI in order to allow my Clevo M121W to boot without the spurious Critical Temperature bug I've mentioned in the past here: http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=88432

Since then, the kernel has been upgraded to 2.6.22.11 and the problem has come back. I am using the 2.6.22.10 version, still but my question is simple:

What has changed in the ACPI implementation between these kernel releases that has caused the problem to reappear within weeks?

Many thanks for your help!
J.

You seem to be fairly knowledgeable about the problem. You'd probably get a better answer if you filed a bug.

The "Answers" section of Launchpad works best when people are asking about installation problems and configuration errors. If you're having a specific and reproducible issue with ACPI, file a bug against linux-source-2.6.22. The best people to answer you are the people working on that package.

https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux-source-2.6.22/+filebug is the place to go. Good luck!

Can you help with this problem?

Provide an answer of your own, or ask James Valentine for more information if necessary.
