[Gutsy] How do I get Bluetooth Applet to talk to my phone?

Asked by Aaron Whitehouse

I just had Gnome Bluetooth Applet appear in my tray and was all excited to give it a go.

I can't, however, get it to work for me.

I have my phone turned to visible. I click Browse Device > (phone name - it is in there) and I get:
"obex://[00:0a:d9:76:0f:f3]" is not a valid location.

No matter what I select in the preferences, every time that I try and send a file (say a picture) from my phone to my computer, I get a "sending failed" error.

Any idea what the problem is? Thanks!

After installing gnome-vfs-obexftp I could connect to the phone and browse it. Still got the popup with the same error but it does work and I can download images from the camera album. :)

Still can't connect from the phone though, would still like more info on how to do that, since I would like to choose an image and send it, instead of having to download all of them. No thumbnails and no timestamps show in Nautilus, so no clues to which image I want, as the numbering of my images are off for some reason.

After upgrading to Gutsy, I had a similar problem...the Gnome Bluetooth Applet showed no devices, but hcitool scan did.

sudo /etc/init.d/bluetooth restart

got it to display the results of the scan and I was able to see and connect to my phone.

Can you help with this problem?
