how to install server platform

Asked by servertool

yes im a linux noob, but please bear with me.
Ive managed to download the Ubuntu ISO, burn the CD - and even install Ubuntu desktop.
I noticed that the very first time I installed the desktop I was actually asked what platform i wanted to install (my options where Desktop, Server or something else I dont recall)
I selected desktop and worked my way thru the setup questions. While the desktop was installing - I read a little more and realised that i actually needed to install the server platform instead.
I waited for the current installation to complete - swap'd out the HDD for another blank, and launched from the setup CD again.
However - this time I didnt get the same options (as in, didnt get the choose what platform I wanted to install).

This is where I am now having trouble.
I would like to install the server platform from the CD i burnt - but dont seem to get any choice when rolling out from the CD.

This is proberbly a silly little problem that my lack of experience isnt helping me with, so Im asking all of you!

Where did you download from? What version? When? and under what preferences?

You usually select Server or Desktop at download-- there isn't an option within the LiveCD. http://www.ubuntu.com/getubuntu/download

Downloading the server version may fix the problem
