GVim Text Editor

Asked by Bruce M.

Hi Everyone...

I started with 6.04 and installed GVim Text Editor. At some point I uninstalled it.
Then I upgraded to 6.10 and now 7.04

I re-installed GVim Text Editor, and the Add/Remove part of Applications currently says it is installed, but it doesn't show in any of my menus.

Any ideas as to where it is and how I can get it to my menu to use it?

Hi Brue,
 first question:
if you go to a terminal (Applications->Accesories->Terminal) and there you write

 gvim mynewfile.txt

does gvim starts?

Maybe it's there and you need to add it to the menu.

Let me know.

Thanks for your followup Bruce.
Please do this:

1- Go to System-> Preferences -> Main menu (As you noticed my Ubuntu is in Castilian so it might have a different name in your pc than the one I'm providing).
2- When you're there, choose the place where you want Gvim to appear, e.g Accesories. Select it in the left panel.
3- Click on "New Element"
4- Fill in with the required information. E.g.:
     Type: Application
     Name: GVim Text Editor
     Command: gvim -f %U
     Comment: Edits text files
5- Regarding the icon location, in my case it's at /usr/share/pixmaps/vim.svg (might vary in your case, search in your machine for vim.svg to be sure).
6- Accept the changes, close forms as required and now you should have it in your menu.

Hope this helps, let me know any doubt y ¡buena suerte!

Hola Mariano,

1- Go to System-> Preferences -> Main menu
2- When you're there, choose the place where you want Gvim to appear, e.g Accesories. Select it in the left panel.

Got this far and saw Gvim in the list on the right without a check mark, clicked on it and also an archive program I installed and never saw, but forgot about.

Hope this helps, let me know any doubt y ¡buena suerte!

Sure did, I'm learning new stuff everyday, and this was something that is going to be very useful.

As to your Ubuntu being in Castillan I didn't know, but your name told me "Spanish"
As a Canuck in Buenos Aries, I simply greeted you in Spanish, which is bad still.

  Gracias,
