Does your PC have a Broadcom 4311 wireless adapter, or is Gutsy wrong about that?

Here's how you can find out. In a terminal window, enter:

$ lspci -v | less

Assuming you have a BC4311, you may also try Ndiswrapper around the Windows driver:

https://help.ubuntu.com/community/WifiDocs/Device/Broadcom_BCM4311_rev_01_%28ndiswrapper%29?highlight=%28WifiDocs%2FDevice%29

About Gutsy: Please note this is not finished software and may contain bugs (including the problem you're experiencing here). You should also install the 32-bit version, if you don't have any specific needs for the 64-bit version.

You can turn off your wireless card in the BIOS i think... sad work around but it should boot. I tried to find some details from HP but they are being secret about that wireless card, could be for security reasons.
