downloading programs

Asked by martinehancock

I am new to Ubuntu. When I tried to download a program the following message came up:-

"Cannot open/home/martinehancock/desktop avg 7.5 free-487a 1130(2).exe. No application suitable for automatic installation is available for handling this kind of file"

I have had the same message when I tried to download other programs.

Please tell me how to fix this problem.

Thank you,
Martin

exe files run only on windows! In linux you don't need an antivirus because linux hasn't got viruses.
To install applications in Ubuntu you have not to download files. Go to
Applications → Add/Remove
or
System → Administration → Synaptic Package Manager

Cheers,
Andrea
