If you ping google and you lost all packs, your connection is not ok and you cannot connect to internet.
What does APT say?

Hi andrea!
I have at least some functionality of internet, as I am makeing this post, but i have tried to ping various google servers through a terminal command and they always fail.
When I try to run the software updater it cannot retrieve the 4 files from the repositories, and every time i try to apt-get something it says that it cant find the package. Synaptic package manager also wont update or allow me to get programs.

Are you pinging domain names or IP addresses? If addresses then it could be DNS issues. If you ping an IP and it doesn't work then I'm afraid I don't know.

the ping thingy works fine now, looking through more of the ubuntu forums I was able to configure my eth0 conenction, my internet seems to be working great.
however, i still cannot seem to get the software updater or synaptic to work...i am confused as to why internet would work but not these.

natuntu@
(gedit:15171): GnomeUI-WARNING **: While connecting to session manager:
Authentication Rejected, reason : None of the authentication protocols specified are supported and host-based authentication failed.
that is what the terminal said...I think that is a problem...I am currently trying to figure out how to fix this, any help/advise would be appreciated.
