Also unable to upgrade

Asked by Philip Strong

Like "Lisa", I bought my Dell Inspiron Mini 10v in October 2009, also with ubuntu 8.04 preinstalled. But since my netbook currently refuses to install any updates I seem to be stuck. The error code that is currently showing when I try to install updates is:

'E:Malformed line 15 in source list /etc/apt/sources.list (dist parse), E:The list of sources could not be read.

Similar to problem "Lisa" reported. However the fix suggested for Lisa kept giving me the same error message repeatedly.

Please help!

Thanks,

Phil Strong

PS: I am a partial technophobe, so please give me any answers in layman's terms! Thanks again. :)

Thank you for taking the time to report this issue and helping to make Ubuntu better. Examining the information you have given us, this does not appear to be a bug report so we are closing it and converting it to a question in the support tracker. We appreciate the difficulties you are facing, but it would make more sense to raise problems you are having in the support tracker at https://answers.launchpad.net/ubuntu if you are uncertain if they are bugs. For help on reporting bugs, see https://help.ubuntu.com/community/ReportingBugs#When%20not%20to%20file%20a%20bug.

Hello Philip
Can you please type in a terminal this command:

cat /etc/apt/sources.list

and copy/paste here the entire output?
Thanks
Fabio

The offending line pointed to a "ppa" component. I figured out a way to
have that commented out; upgrades started to work again.
