Importing Windows Favourites as Firefox Bookmarks when Ubuntu installed inside windows Vista

Asked by Roy Smith

Having installed Ubuntu inside Windows Vista, the Ubuntu Firefox does not recognise my Internet Explorer Favourites in my separate data partition and will not import them, neither does it recognise the original Bookmarks from my Firefox browser installed with my Windows Vista.

I've looked around in the windows OS and found tthe bookmarks in the users/appdata/---mozilla/profiles but I have no idea how to find this in Ubuntu or how to perhaps copy the favourites into the Ubuntu firefox bookmarks folder even if I could find them.

Can anyone help me with this please? or at least point me in the right direction and I'll try figuring the rest out as I go along.

Thanks

I am a little unclear what you are asking -- when you say it doesn't recognise them, are you expecting that these should be synchronised between the two OSs? If so, I suspect this will not be an easy thing to set up.

Alternately, if you just want to do a single import/export. You can export bookmarks using the "organise bookmarks" window (Ctrl+Shift+O) in firefox, and there is a similar procedure for IE. (http://kb.mozillazine.org/Import_bookmarks)

You can then import them into your other firefox install.

Thank you mycae,

it all makes a lot more sense to me now that I've read (http://kb.mozillazine.org/Import_bookmarks) and I've managed to export from my windows OS to my Data partition and import to the Ubuntu Firefox from there.

Sometimes the simplest things seem the hardest when you're doing them for the first time and even more so when doing them on your own.

Thank goodness for the worldwideweb and Ubuntu communities
