Installing ManDVD patch

Asked by Keith M

I've recently begun using ManDVD. I've liked it until it won't allow me to create a animated dvd menu in NTSC format. I've found this thread https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/karmic/+source/mandvd/+bug/420616 with the solution but I cannot follow how to install the patch. Can someone please direct me to a tutorial on how to install patches because the instructions here seem foggy to me. Thanks in advance.

Installing a patch is tricky business, and it involves rebuilding the package from the original programming code. Fortunately, according to that bug, the patch has already been applied. So if you are using ManDVD versions higher than 2.5-5-0ubuntu2 (program version 2.5.5, package version 0, ubuntu version 2). then you already have this. If not, simply update your version of ManDVD

Can I update to 2.5.5 while in ubuntu 9.04?

2.5.5-0ubuntu1 (no patch) yes, 2.5.5-0ubuntu2 (with patch) no.

9.04 (Jaunty) is not supported as of 2010-10-23. You need to run lucid or later (10.04) for this package version. I recommend always using the Long term support (LTS) releases for this reason.

Alternately, if you have some programming experience, you can try to rebuild the package from source. This may or may not work due to version dependency problems (these are normally resolved by the package maintainers, but as your version is unsupported, this is up to chance).

Instructions, very roughly, are here

You will need to manually get the latest source package from (dsc & orig.tar.gz links; right hand side)

This is not easy to do, so if you have little command line experience, you may find this frustrating. Of course if you are comfortable with the command line, and a little scripting, you may be able to do this no worries.

Can you help with this problem?
