install either:

unrar - Unarchiver for .rar files (non-free version)
unrar-free - Unarchiver for .rar files (Can't handle archives in the RAR 3.0 format)

for .rar < 3.0

apt-get install unrar-free

for .rar >= 3.0

apt-get install unrar
