Compal Laptop "Santa Rosa" Platform Question

Asked by Tiago Silva

As anyone got to successfully install and configure Ubuntu on one of the new 'Santa Rosa' laptops from Compal?

I just purchased my first laptop, a Compal FT00/ITF00 (VBI) and little is supported on Feist/Gutsy Tribes 5...

Most of my peers say to me that this platform will receive proper attention by the time of Hardy Heron, so I also wanted to but this on the table.

Thank you.

According to what I've read on the forums so far, in earlier stages, Gutsy had sever problems running on Santa Rosa hardware, but is working fine with most computers that have it at the moment. You may benefit from doing a search in the forums and/or asking others about their experiences there.

I've read the forums and some posts over here, Murat.
Even the bug #119255 that apparently is now linked to this one (I've installed using the alternate version of Gutsy, all the live desktop versions failed to run...).
My original intention when setting this bug was to obtain some sort of information straight from the devs (preferably)/users.

Here's another thread where a few forum users indicate that their laptops are working properly:

Developers rarely provide support at the answer tracker. If you want straight technical information, you may want to have a word with the kernel team at #ubuntu-kernel in irc.freenode.net. If you choose to do so, please keep in mind that the channel is not for technical support, but kernel related development discussions.
