Enable jabber account

You must put the /Home tag only when you are connected with an other PC: http://wiki.jabber.org/index.php/Jabber_Resources
The right syntax is: <email address hidden>

Are you behind a proxy?
Was this account created with Gaim?

I didn't put that /Home tag, it was there by default. Even when I cancel it, the resulting account is always with the /Home tag! It seems that there's no way to get rid of it. Anyway the /Home tag is present only for Jabber accounts, if I create a hotmail account, for example, then the /Home tag is not there. Why is this? I don't really understand!

In "add account" screen, did you pressed "register" button or "save" one?
"Register" button means "tell the server (jabber.org in this case) to create a new account with this data so I can use it".
"Save" button means "the server already knows this account, so I can start using it right now".

It seems you should use the "register" one.
Please, tell us if this solved your problem.

I tried cancelling the *Home* entry under *Resource*, like this:

Anyway my account comes out like this (with the *Home* tag:

When I check the box to enable the account, I get this error:

It seems I cannot get rid of the *Home* tag. But this tag appears only with the Jabber server, if I use Hotmail or Yahoo, There's no *Home* tag, but there's no *Register* button either, so I just press *Save*:

I guess there's no way to solve the problem using a Jabber account with Gaim.

Gaim won't register a Jabber account when pressing the Register button. I guess one should *FIRST* create a Jabber email account (like <email address hidden>) and then ennable it in Gaim *AFTER* it has been created. But how do you create a Jabber email account I don't know and couldn't find out.

So I just created a gmail email account and ennabled that in Gaim. In this way I got everything working.

If anyone knows how to create a Jabber email account please let this forum know.

In the contacts windows should have appear a message with more information about what has gone wrong.
If the message is too cryptic or you'd like to try something else, try to register new jabber account with another jabber client, as psi or gajim. Both can be installed via Synaptic.
