Need help connecting to a HP Photosmart C5100 on a home network.

Asked by TeaMan

I am very new to UBUNTU and I am trying to connect to a HP Photosmart C5100 printer that is a node on my home network. I downloaded the HPLIP self extracting file, but can't figure out how to load it. I checked to see if I already have HPLIP set up and I do. I have version 1.7.3 and need 1.6.9, so I should be OK. I tried to run hp-setup and get the following message.

HP Linux Imaging and Printing System (ver. 1.7.3)
Printer/Fax Setup Utility ver. 4.5

I'm not sure what to do to make this work.

Can anyone help?

It's much easier than that. Just open system -> admin -> printing and double click add printer. Follow the wizard. HP is probably one of the best options for a printer in Linux.

I didn't do the "sudo hp-setup" part. I just did it the "gnome way". Worked perfectly.

Let me know if you have other questions.
