modprobe -Q invalid option

Asked by Jon Gwinn

Just upgraded from 8.04 LTS to 10.04 LTS on a Dell Inspiron 530. On boot-up, I get the message "modprobe -Q invalid option" - never got this message whilst running 8.04. I am on a wired network and have no wireless card in this machine. All the Google searches I do on "modprobe -Q invalid option" return results having to do with a wireless network. Would like to get rid of this seemingly invalid error message. // Welshgeek

Please open the /var/log/boot.log to find some useful info in it about the modules name

gedit /var/log/boot.log

also open the /etc/modules: kernel modules to load at boot time.

/var/log/boot.log contains:

fsck from util-linux-ng 2.17.2

udevd[332]: SYSFS{}= will be removed in a future udev version, please
use ATTR{}= to match the event device, or ATTRS{}= to match a parent
device, in /etc/udev/rules.d/50-xserver-xorg-input-wacom.rules:11

...[snipped many more of the above, repeated thru rules: 30

then...

/dev/sda5: clean, 248448/5251072 files, 3676604/20986906 blocks

 * Starting AppArmor profiles

[ OK ]

 * Setting sensors limits

[ OK ]
----------------------

Here are the total contents of /etc/modules:

# /etc/modules: kernel modules to load at boot time.
#
# This file contains the names of kernel modules that should be loaded
# at boot time, one per line. Lines beginning with "#" are ignored.
