cant connect to WEP connection

Asked by Dakunesu

i have a [d-link wua 1340] i installed the driver using wine and ndiswrapper. hoever i can only connect to unsecure wireless connections.

OS: ubuntu 7.04 feisty
Wireless connection: 2WIRE195
ISP: Quest High Speed

after entering the WEP code it trys to connect but it askes again for my WEP code.

the wireless manager for the d-link wont run correctly in wine, it keeps on saying that the wireless adapter isnt there

is there a way to get the current manager to connect or is there a different wireless-mananger that i can use to do it.

Did you try Network Manager? That's usually your new-best-friend when it comes to wireless management.

Then are you running Edgy or Feisty?

In any case, this post could be usefull:

Look for TripleCheese post.

yeahhhh... i may have been solving my own problems but i dont think i can do what triple with cheese did. ive tried using 'make' for programs that i found but it never works.

im using what ever one came with gnome( Network Manager and Network Manage-gnome are installed ) and i have the "windows wireless drivers" GUI package that came from ndiswrapper

i blacklisted the default wireless driver because it kept tring to take over and stopped ALL connection. (rt73usb) im not sure what (bcm43xx) does but one of my guides said to blacklist that.

The current driver thats controlling it is (dr71wu) that was on the disk that came with it and the ndiswrapper site said its compatable

Ubuntu 7.04
latest kernal i think
USB: 1.something

Ok, try this:
connect to the network, enter your WEP key
Open a terminal, then type "dmesg"
It should display a log, can you check if the latest lines refer to the wireless connection and copy paste them here?

Great if you found a solution...From the log I can just see nothing unfortunately: no error message at the end, so I don't really know what's going on.

Check with gutsy when it's out, drivers will be updated. Maybe it will work without problem then.
