Dell D505 touchpad functioning, but no cursor

Asked by coopbs

I've installed Ubuntu 7.04 on a Dell D505. The touchpad will move the mouse, but the mouse cursor is not visible. I can tell the mouse is moving though, because if I try long enough, I can manage to move around and highlight buttons, make captions pop up in the corners, etc. All the touchpad issues I've seen relate to sensitivity, speed, setting the touchpad area parameters, etc. but nothing on this. Any thoughts? Many thanks.

Also, it looks like the same issue occurs with a two button/scroll wheel mouse.

It looks like an external mouse and the touchpad work fine when using older versions of Ubuntu, such as 6.06 - just not in 7.04.

After spending a day on all sorts of things to no avail, I same across this thread on ubuntuforums.org entitled 'Problem with 7.04 on a Dell d505 with 82852/82855 Graphics Controller.' http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?p=3339659

I reverted from bios revision A11 to A09 from within XP (luckily I dual boot Ubuntu 7.04 and XP), and all is well now. Bios link...http://ftp.us.dell.com/bios/D505_A09.EXE
