Permissions for Palm Pilot

Asked by John Wilson

I am a newbie to Ubuntu and would like to configure my Palm Pilot Tungsten E2.
When I run gnome pilot I get stuck at the following error message:
Read/Write permissions failed on
Cradle (/dev/pilot)
Check the permissions on the device and retry
At present I am not the superuser but when I look in /dev/ I cannot see a pilot folder.
If and when I can find it how do I change my permissions?
Regards,
John

In Ubuntu Wiki there is an article Easy Palm device setup.
Having written a custom rules file and added the visor module I am still getting the same error message.
Also if I issue a -l command with my palm pilot plugged in this is what I get:
john@desktop:~$ mount -l
/dev/hdb1 on / type ext3 (rw,errors=remount-ro) []
proc on /proc type proc (rw,noexec, nosuid, nodev)
/sys on /sys type sysfs (rw,noexec,nosuid,nodev)
varrun on /var/run type tmpfs (rw,noexec,nosuid,nodev,mode=0755)
varlock on /var/lock type tmpfs (rw,noexec,nosuid,nodev,mode=1777)
procbususb on /proc/bus/usb type usbfs (rw)
udev on /dev type tmpfs (rw,mode=0755)
devshm on /dev/shm type tmpfs (rw)
devpts on /dev/pts type devpts (rw,gid=5,mode=620)
lrm on /lib/modules/2.6.20-16-generic/volatile type tmpfs (rw)
binfmt_misc on /proc/sys/fs/binfmt_misc type binfmt_misc (rw)

Any suggestions?
John

Changed from defaults to USB when running Gnomepilot for the first time and can now get my palm to work sort of.
