Can't set monitor resolution to 1600 x 1200

Asked by saporito

When I load a Live CD with Ubuntu and select a resolution from the load-start screen at 1600x1200 for use with my Syncmaster 213T monitor, the software loads in that resolution; however, after the software OS starts, the desktop changes to a lower resolution. When I attempt to change the resolution from within the OS, the selection of resolutions does not show 1600x1200?

Please help - do you have a drive I can download and install? If so, please provide instructions - I am not familiar with Linux.

I am using a Compaq laptop with AMD64 chipset

thanks!

Just type in console :
sudo dpkg-reconfigure -phigh xserver-xorg
:: select with spacebar, close with enter
Then you just reboot or restart X.

I entered the command that you suggested in the console, and my screen went blank for a moment but returned the same way without any selection of resolution? When I first boot from the live CD, I am able to select the 1600x1200 resolution just fine; however, once the desktop is shown, the resolution changes to 1024x768 for some reason and I can reset it from the desktop?

I would appreciate any help!

Can you help with this problem?
