Printing of Arabic text

Asked by Harald-Gschanes

I have got a problem when printing arabic letters.
My OS: Ubuntu 6.0.6 LTS
My Editor: Openoffice.org Word 2.0.2
OO options set to CTL.
I write arabic texts by using Font Courier NEW, Regular, Special Characters Arabic Basic.
Presentation of arabic letters, incl. ligations on monitor is correct, but when printing on Printing System CUPS, Network Printer HP JetDirect, Printers HP LaserJet 1100A or DeskJet 880C, the arabic letters are sepatated by spaces.
What and how to configure the system in order to get correctly printed documents?
Thank you for help.

before printing you can convert your document to PDF format!

converting the file to PDF doesn't solve the problem. When printing out the PDF file, the print-out is just the same as in case of direct printing.
Is it a problem caused by missing fonts for printer?
Indication:
I edited the font related part of the ppd file of the printer by changing "courier" to "courier new". The result is a correct printout.
However this is not a final solution for my problem, because the manually changed ppd file is not accepted when re-booting the computer.

Can you help with this problem?
