Hotsync - Palm TE2 problems

Asked by Bruce M.

Ubuntu 6.06 - from Prefs I set up my Palm TE2 with PalmOS Devices. I see my datebook entries in Evolution (don't like it) and tried again to hot sync.
I get the warning:
Warning (gnome-pilot)
The base directory ?L($$#$$)?L($$) is invalid. Please fix it or use gnomecc to choose another directory.
The ($) indicates strange characters - one for each $ - look like dice #4
The # is some other strange character

The original setup was changed from /MyPilot to /TunstenE2, when that didn't work the second time I tried a hotsync I deleted it (using PalmOS Devices) and set my palm up again using: /TE2 instead of /MyPilot

  Pilot settings:
  Pilots
Name: TE2 ID: 31279 User Name: Bruce Milmine
  Devices
Name: Cradle Port: /dev/pilot Speed: 115200 Type: USB
  Conduits
Pilot Name: TE2 User Name: Bruce Milmine
and then the selections of Synchronize, Enable, Disable etc.

What is gnomecc? How do I fix a directory obviously can't be read? :(
Can I delete any reference to my palm on the entire system (including the info in Evolution) as I want to try jPilot?
Infact can I even delete Evolution?

Thanks for your help and patience with me.
