I can't create files in my File System because I'm not root and I don't know the password...

Asked by Melzy

I need to install an interpreter for Miranda and it involves making files in the File System. Since, I'm not the owner of the File System, I can't do it. Root is the owner. I used to think that the root and me are the same. Anyway, it's asking for the password. I don't know any password. I can't remember giving a password for root during the installation of Ubuntu. Help! I really need the Miranda interpreter.

Hello,

the easiest way is to create a new one. Open the terminal and enter:

1)Type sudo
2)When it asks for a password, enter your current user's password.
3)Type passwd root or just passwd.
4)Enter and confirm the password for the root user.
5)Now you can actually use the su command
