Log File viewer what does it record?

Please could some one tell me
Q 1/ what does Log File viewer record and what is it for?

Q 2/ and can it be delete?

I do not wish to stop log recording only to purge old data

Plenty of services are recording logs. They are all located in /var/logs. The log viewer is just a tool to read them.
If you delete the log viewer, you just delete the tool, not the logs. They are still available in the folder. But please note that most of them are NOT readable by any user. You need to be in the admin group to be able to read them I think.
