Is it possible to save settings for a live disk on a flash drive?

Asked by gerbilio

I have a class of students who are running Maverick Meerkat. I'd like to have them save their settings from week to week on a flash drive. Is this possible in Ubuntu 10.10?

Thanks...Matt

Sure, just insert it and it will mount and they can save data to the device

i'm assuming you mean your students plug in the usb flash drive and run ubuntu of that and that you mean save their ubuntu/application settings on the usb drive.

it is possible. but you would have to have enabled persistence when installing ubuntu on the usb drive. there may be a way to enable persistence afterwards, but i haven't done that. but if you have the time, you can always reinstall ubuntu on the flash drive and set persistence.

well, you could have the students do it as an exercise. :D

Can you help with this problem?
