Wallpaper appears tiled as Ubuntu boots up on a wmware virtual machine on Mac Mini

Asked by EC

I am currently running Ubuntu 10.10 within a virtual machine environment on my Mac Mini using VMWare Fusion.

When I boot into Ubuntu 10.10 I notice that my wallpaper appears tiled until it finally loads my Gnome desktop when the wallpaper appears as normal. Is this normal behaviour or a bug?

Here are the specs of my Machine: Macmini 3,1 (model), 2 Ghz Intel Core 2 Duo, 3 GB Ram (3 MB L2 Cache), NVIDIA GeForce 9400 w/256 MB, Fujitsu SATA HDD 120.03 GB. I am using VMWare Fusion 3.1.1 (282344) and allocated about 8 or 9 GB for my Ubuntu install.

The specs of the PC are moot as you are running the system in a virtual environment, so all the hardware the OS is running on is virtualized.

May help, this will make the boot loader use the framebuffer driver and should be nicer. I am guessing you mean the boot splash is distorted...

I tried that workaround but it didn't seem to work.

This is what I mean by the wallpaper is tiled by the way: http://img4.imageshack.us/img4/1259/weirdissuewithmaverick.png
