Freeze 10.10 with ASUS P7P55D - Intel core I5 650

Asked by touisk

Hi,

I want to test Ubuntu 10.10. I burned a Live-CD. I get the desktop but, at any time, the mouse and keyboard is freezing. I can see the otehr programs going on in their windows. After many reboot it's still the same at any time.
A friend gave me a Live-CD of Ubuntu 10.04 : the same but ...

With Ubuntu 09.04 it works perfectly !!!!!!

I tested the memory. It's ok. How can it work perfectly with Ubuntu 09.04 - Jaunty Jackalope but none with the later versions ?

I tried some commands one ubuntu 10.10 installed but none works :-(

Thanks for your help
(Sorry for my bad english)

Bye

Did you MD5 test the ISO you downloaded?
Did you burn the CD as slowly as possible?
Did you check the CD for defects once initially booted to?

yes,
I did a md5 check on the downloaded ISO
I made a bootable USB key. same freeze on the desktop after a few second as a few minutes
I made a bootable CD (the soft dis a test after the burn). same pbm
Install Ubuntu on hard disk. same pbm.
even test 64 bits version. same pbm.
So go back ubuntu 9.04. not any pbm.

There is no pbm with a Live-CD of Ubuntu 9.10 (Koala Karmique). I keep this version !

I made a BIOS update to the latest version of 1807. Restart + reload default values of the BIOS. Ubuntu 10.10 Koala Karmique a little bit more stable but it still freeze after a while (7 min env.).

Note : the keyboard lights are no responding any more !
I was watching a video on youtube. While "freezing" the video was still going int the window (with sound) :-)

According to the last post, I suspected the keyboard or the mouse.
I've found some posts related to this motherboard with keyboard and mouse problem.

That's it !
My mouse on the PS/2 port breaks downd the operating system !
I putted off the PS/2 - USB adaptator.
Now, my mouse is a real native USB mouse. Ubuntu 10.10 works perfectly.
Note : The keyboard is still connected on the PS/2 port.

If my experience can help anyone.
