mirroring

Asked by PocketSam

Hello! I'm thinking of creating a local mirror of Ubuntu distro in my metropolitan network. The only thing I have to know to make a decision is an approximate volume of traffic per month to keep my mirror relevant? So can you answer me as soon as you can! Thanks a lot!

I think you should ask this question under "launchpad". At the moment you are asking it under "ubuntu".

For your mirror to get traffic, you need to add it to the list of package mirrors for your country. You have the option of mirroring the CD/DVD ISOs and/or becoming a proper package mirror, such as CC.ubuntu.archive.com (CC=country code) alias for your country.

If you become a package mirror, I do not think you will get any excessive traffic.

If you become a ISO mirror, it depends on whether your URL becomes visible during new Ubuntu releases.

I would recommend the package mirror option, and registering with Ubuntu so that your users can find your entry in Synaptic Package Manager and enjoy amazing update speeds.
