How do I install the autorun program?

Asked by Brian Smith

I'm trying to install a video game emulator on Ubuntu 10.10 called Dolphin. I downloaded the Linux installation from their website...it is a tar.bz2 file. I opened it with Archive Manager and navigate to the autorun, but when I try to run it...but Ubuntu tells me that it cannot find the autorun program.

I checked out the Ubuntu Software Center and searched for autorun. I then installed all three available options, to no avail.

I tried to run it, I had a problem with a requirement for an old audio driver.
To have more info about the problem, I ran the "dolphin-emu" program from the terminal. It said :

"error while loading shared libraries: libao.so.2: cannot open shared object file"

I checked, libao is available on Maverick, but with a much recent version, version 4... I tried to trick Dolphin by saying that version 4 is in fact version 2, but then it complained about another missing library... Sounds complicated.

But I found that:
http://www.ubuntugames.org/us/emulator/200-dolphin-emulator
At the bottom, it explained how to compile by yourself, or how to downloaded a prepackaged version. Try the package first, it's of course the easiest solution... I'm not sure if it can work on Maverick, but that's worth a try.

Can you help with this problem?
