Asked by gaddo

Can any help me with getting wireless working with laptop.
There is a lot written on this topic and i have read most of it, but understand a very little.
I have followed instructions for determining if the wireless card is recognized which i think is below?

 *-network:1
                description: Wireless interface
                product: AR5005G 802.11abg NIC
                vendor: Atheros Communications, Inc.
                physical id: 2
                bus info: pci@06:02.0
                logical name: wifi0
                version: 01
                serial: 00:16:ce:8a:89:c9
                width: 32 bits
                clock: 33MHz
capabilities: bus_master cap_list logical ethernet physical wireless
                configuration: broadcast=yes driver=ath_pci driverversion=0.9.4.5 (0.9.3.1) latency=168 maxlatency=28 mingnt=10 multicast=yes wireless=IEEE 802.11g

But also ran
sudo iwconfig

lo no wireless extensions.

eth0 no wireless extensions.

wifi0 no wireless extensions.

ath0 IEEE 802.11g ESSID:"" Nickname:""
          Mode:Managed Frequency:2.437 GHz Access Point: Not-Associated
          Bit Rate:0 kb/s Tx-Power:9 dBm Sensitivity=0/3
          Retry:off RTS thr:off Fragment thr:off
          Encryption key:off
          Power Management:off
Link Quality=0/94 Signal level=-94 dBm Noise level=-94 dBm
Rx invalid nwid:0 Rx invalid crypt:0 Rx invalid frag:0
          Tx excessive retries:0 Invalid misc:0 Missed beacon:0

Hope this helps solving the problem as i am completely out if my depth.
Thanks

Your card seems to be recognized.

Do you have the NetworkManager applet in your taskbar?

If yes, do you see some wireless network when clicking on it?
If not, maybe you should try to install it, it's really the easiest way to configure wireless connections.
